Our volunteers get to play!
The Midday Move active recess program happens every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from mid-October through May at Lowell, Russell and Hawthorne Schools in Missoula.
What do Midday Move volunteers do? Swing a jump rope, toss a ball, play tetherball. . . whatever fits the abilities and interests of you and the kids. The playgrounds are ADA accessible.
If you can commit to 3 shifts, awesome. But if you want to try it one time to see if you like it, that's ok. If you can only volunteer for one hour instead of the whole 2-hour recess, just let us know.
Every volunteer gets a snazzy neck buff, access to a training video and supervision by a Midday Move staff member. Plus they get the satisfaction of knowing that they're helping improve kids' physical and emotional health.
Because they will be interacting with kids, volunteers must complete a successful background check via the Missoula County Public Schools (MCPS) website. The background check application is easy to complete, costs less than $10, and it takes only a few days to get your results. We have gift cards for those who have completed at least 3 shifts to thank volunteers for covering this expense. And your MCPS background check will work for other volunteer opportunities within the district for two years.
REQUIRED: to volunteer, please email us at mschmidt@missoulacounty.us and we can walk you through the sign-up process. Please email at least one week before your first shift so we can connect you with a volunteer supervisor who will meet you at the school your first day and give you a BRIEF orientation. Feel free to call (406) 258-3895 with questions and check out our short video! Thank you!
