About Community Foundations: Community foundations are as unique as the places they serve. From Tulsa to Tacoma, from Forsyth to the Flathead, we all build assets for our community’s future by:
• Encouraging long-term, local philanthropy
• Assessing and responding to community needs
• Providing flexibility and efficiency for donors with varied interests and giving capacities
• Serving as a resource and a catalyst for other organizations

Community foundations offer a great way for donors to make charitable gifts while retaining the highest possible amount of flexibility and effectiveness. They serve the financial needs of both donors and the charities they choose as partners. The Missoula Community Foundation functions as a philanthropic resource for the greater Missoula valley by providing flexibility, professional administrative support, investment management, and program evaluation services.

The Missoula Community Foundation, originally formed under the name Celebrate Missoula Community Foundation, began in 2001 as a Lee Enterprises and Missoulian project. The Foundation initially made small grants of up to $2,000. Between 2001 and 2007, the Foundation raised approximately $20,000 annually for those grants.

The Board reorganized in 2007 with a larger vision of becoming a full-fledged community foundation with a significant endowment, and the name was changed to the Missoula Community Foundation. Since then we have raised, set aside, and helped manage over $3,000,000 to provide for the future of our community. We award small grants and scholarships. We host Give Local Missoula on the first Tuesday in May, a one-day online givng event that encourages everyone to be a superhero for their community and favorite nonprofits.
